Calculating a transit

Calculating a transit is considerably easy once you have established a natal birth chart. Unless you’ve already obtained one of those there’s nothing you can do with the current planets. I suggest going to alabe.com and using their free chart generator. It’s clear, accurate, and it’s what I started with when I first got into astrology. There are several others, but I prefer that one for the natal chart. There are also websites that will calculate your transits for you, but I know how to do that on my own so I don’t use any of them. In order to understand how to interpret the current planets you’ll need to understand some terms. If you don’t know what the houses, signs and planets are then go back to natal astrology. You’ll also need to be able to define and conceptualize each of the aspects. If words like conjunction, sextile, or trine don’t make any sense then a repeat of the natal course is needed. Check out my book called The Circus in my Head: A Madman’s path to Astrology and you’ll be able to teach yourself all you need to know. After you’ve gotten those definitions down calculating transits will be a breeze.
To start off, picture a slot machine with like thirteen different spinning wheels. Each wheel revolves at extremely different speeds and as they fall into place an energy is released like when the slot machine lights up a winner. Bells and whistles go off and you get some sort of payoff. The more planets aligning in a close manner, the bigger payouts. And just like Vegas, sometimes you’re a winner and sometimes you’re not. As the planets fall into place some transits will be felt over the span of months or even years. Think of this. The Moon completes one full cycle every twenty-eight days or so and is the fastest of the luminaries or planets. Pluto is the slowest and takes about 238 years to complete a cycle. That’s a considerable difference, huh? You also have to take into account not everyone is influenced by each planet equally. I’m not as influenced by Venus nearly as much as I am Mercury, and others will have significant Saturn problems where some people will not.
When it comes to interpreting transits every astrologer develops their own method. Some will start with Pluto and work their way in. Others will start with the Sun and work their way out. I start with Saturn then go to the Sun and follow a system I’ve developed over the years of reading charts. Begin with those two and they’ll tell you where you need put in the most work and effort. After that, the other planets will instigate various scenarios and you’ll see the influence of each planet if you’re intelligently observing. Follow these steps for each individual planet and you’ll be able to comprise your current transits.
When configuring transits everything begins with your rising sign and the divided up houses. Say your ascendant is the 5th degree of Aries and the current Moon is in the 25th degree of Pisces. Place a symbol for the Moon wherever that degree in Pisces falls in your chart and analyze the aspects formed with your other natal planets. Say for instance your natal Sun is the 26th degree of Cancer. You would say the current Moon is transiting your twelfth house and in trine with your Sun. For a few hours you’ll be experiencing that effect. About twenty hours later, the Moon will be in the 5th degree of Aries and you would say the Moon is conjunct your rising sign and about to transit your first house. Adding more to the plot. Say your natal Jupiter is in the 20th degree of Aries. Once the Moon has passed your ascendant and is within the orb it will still be transiting your first house only conjoining with Jupiter and forming a square with your 26th degree Cancer Sun. That will trigger a different effect and you’ll have to identify that on your own.
Once you have positioned every planet you’ll have a complete transit report. Each entity will have its current house transit and the aspects to the planets are just as important. There will be multiple transits occuring at all times and sometimes you only realize the effects for a brief second. If you want a good look at your daily horoscope figure out your Moon, Sun, and Venus transits and you’ll get a great idea of your daily horoscope. Pay attention to house placement and the conjunction to your natal planets and you’ll see my interpretations are pretty spot on. These philosophies should only be used as guidelines when making forecasts and it’s up to the individual astrologer to make whatever prediction. Personally, I use an occasional outburst of psychic intuition and my opinion is guided by outer forces. Many times those outer forces have been right or else I wouldn’t rely on them.
